Business Migration

The business skills category of visas is designed to attract applicants to Australia who have the following attributes:

• business owners: successful business people who are owners or part-owners of a business (or businesses)
• senior executives employed by major businesses who will use their business skills to obtain a substantial ownership interest in a new or existing business in Australia and actively participate in that business at a senior management level
• business people or investors who invest in 'designated investments' in Australia and
• certain temporary visa holders in Australia who have established a business in Australia.

Most offshore business skills visas are four-year provisional visas, during which time the visa holder is expected to successfully operate a business or manage their investment for a period between 2 and 4 years. If the visa holder then meets relevant criteria, they will be eligible to apply for a permanent business skills visa, allowing them to remain permanently in Australia.

High calibre business people may be able to apply directly for a permanent visa offshore, provided they meet certain criteria and are sponsored by a State/ Territory government.
